Divorce is traditionally a painful process, but it doesn’t have to
be anymore! To help you with your divorce goals, I’m sharing my
suggestions for protecting yourself, your family, and your finances.
As a psychologically-trained divorce attorney and mediator, I can help
you create a path to a happier, healthier life.
My unique divorce process provides comfort, includes a successful legal
strategy, and will give you peace of mind during a complex legal process.
Let’s get started with a few solid tips:
1. Consider a less aggressive path to divorce.
Most divorce matters can be negotiated. Your life doesn’t have to
look like a divorce court reality show. You can choose a less expensive,
faster, more dignified process like mediation. Mediation can be less costly
(why give all your assets to attorneys?), less aggressive, more compassionate,
more family friendly, and financially fair!
2. Think strategically, not emotionally.
Once divorce is a consideration, don’t just react. Think, plan, and
strategize. Select the professionals who will provide the divorce armor
you need and who will champion your wishes.
3. Don’t move out of the marital residence.
Never simply leave your home. Getting back in can be difficult. Stand your
ground and don’t lose your leverage. Moving out of your home can
have ramifications you haven’t considered.
4. Don’t take substantive divorce advice from your priest, rabbi,
or best friend!
They may have known someone who divorced or have been through divorce themselves,
but that doesn’t mean they passed the bar and practice divorce law.
Gladly accept their love and emotional support and leave the nuts and
bolts of divorce to the pros.
5. Don’t use your children as pawns.
Your children are your greatest gift. Don’t sacrifice them in your
battle. Children are meant to be treasured and protected by both their
mom and dad.
