As a divorce attorney/mediator for over 35 years, I have received hundreds
of calls from spouses unhappy with their divorce representation. If your
divorce attorney is not returning phone calls, answering emails, not listening
to what you want, or keeping you in the loop with your case, it may be
time to fire your attorney.
If you are not happy with your divorce lawyer, and they’re not doing
a great job for you, it’s time to them to go! There is no reason
to sink any more money into your divorce case with an attorney who is
not working for you!
Every profession has talented people. There will also be some professionals
who are not assertive, not a good fit with your personality or not good
at what they do. That’s just not good enough for you!
When it comes to your divorce, you need the best, highly skilled, passionate
attorney and more importantly, an attorney who will be the right fit for
you and your case.
As a dedicated and highly skilled divorce lawyer and mediator, I can tell
you that having accomplished, highly motivated representation when divorcing
is the key to getting the best possible settlement for you and your family.
When it comes to your future, and that of your family, there is no room
for mistakes.
Here are 4 reasons to get rid of your divorce attorney:
- Doesn’t return phone calls or respond to emails.
You are entitled to prompt communication with your attorney. Yes, they
are busy, and you are not their only client, but they should respond to
you in a timely fashion. You deserve to be heard and to have your questions
answered, and to be advised on the progress of your case.
- The attorney you hired is not equipped to handle your case.
Some cases become complex and if you are a high net worth client, you may
require a divorce attorney with a strong financial background. Depending
on the scope of your case, you may need a divorce attorney who is a highly
skilled negotiator or seasoned litigator. Not all attorneys are created
equal. If you feel your attorney lacks the expertise your case requires
you may not get the settlement you deserve!
- Your attorney is a mess!
If your attorney never seems to be prepared, or on top of what is going
on in your case, you’re in trouble. This can really be a problem,
and negatively affect the outcome of your case when they show up unprepared
for court. If this happens to you, don’t walk, run!! Your lawyer’s
disorganization should never waste your time, money or jeopardize your
case or your settlement.
- You don’t agree with your lawyer’s advice.
Although you are probably not an attorney, and should take your lawyer’s
advice, your attorney still needs to listen to your wishes. If you feel
your attorney is pressuring you to accept a settlement that is not comfortable
to you, you may have a problem. After all, it is your life, and also your
decision. If your attorney can’t adequately explain the reason for
his/her advice, and the settlement offer is not in alignment with what
you feel is fair; you may want to consider at the very least a consultation
with another divorce attorney. Get a second opinion!

If you are experiencing any, or all of the above, please call me to go
